The planned new Province of Fermo is being created from part of the province of Ascoli Piceno.
The new province (capital Fermo) will contain 860 km², comprised of 40 comuni, with a population of 166,218 as of the 2001 census, the loss of which will leave the remaining Province of Ascoli Piceno with 33 comuni and an adjusted population of 203,153.
