The overall prevalence of IDDM, NIDDM and IGT in the total population was 0.23%, 5.63% and 0.50% respectively in the Saudi males, and 0.30%, 4.53% and 0.72% respectively in the Saudi females.
This study was conducted on 25 337 Saudi individuals and showed that diabetes mellitus and IGT occurred in all provinces of Saudi Arabia and the type of diabetes most prevalent in the Saudis was NIDDM.
