Prthivi   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-30)
Prthivi, earth mother, is the female aspect of the creator god Dyaus Pitar as mention in the Rg Veda and other Vedic texts including the Atharva-Veda.
According to one legend Prthivi is the daughter of Prithu who had granted the blessing of life on earth and who, in her turn, emerged from the arm of the corpse of King Vena.
Prthivi is a chthonic, or earth, goddess with whom the sky god Dyaus Pitar couples fertilizes her with rain.

Dyaus Pita - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-30)
In vedic religion, Dyaus Pita is the Sky Father, husband of Prthivi and father of Agni and Indra (RV 4.17.4).
Sharing a fate similar to nordic Tyr's, already in the Rig Veda, Dyaus Pita is all but featureless, appearing in hymns 1.89, 1.90, 1.164, 1.191 and 4.1 in simple invocations.
Thomas Oberlies tentatively identifies Asura and Dyaus in pre-vedic religion (both appear as Indra's father, but Asura is never associated with Prthivi, so there is a possibility of two conflicting myths).

Akasha is a Sanskrit word meaning space or sky.
In Hinduism it is one of the five elements (panchamahabhoota), the others being prthivi 'earth', apa 'water', agni 'fire' and vayu 'wind'.
In paganism and wicca, it is the unifying energy that is inherent in every living creature on the planet, and in all of the 4 elements (earth, air, water, and fire) that make up the natural world as we know it.

Another account of creation emphasizes the role of the goddess Earth (also known as Prthivi), whose nature consists of three primary facets: the physical earth that sustains life, the universal mother of creation, and matter itself that becomes manifest in creation.
As the all-producing physical earth, Prthivi "is invoked to pour out nectar and milk to feed her children and is said to have golden breasts." Prthivi is sometimes paired with the universal father Dyaus and is also described in some accounts as being lifted out of the primordial waters.
The Vedas briefly mention that Prthivi has great procreative powers and "forces that flow forth from her body" (Pintchman 30-32).

 FORE: Religion-Hinduism-Introduction
The Vedic traditions of Hinduism offer imagery that values the power of the natural world.
Scholars of the Vedas have held forth various texts and rituals that extol the earth (bhu), the atmosphere (bhuvah), and sky (sva), as well as the goddess associated with the earth (Prthivi), and the gods associated with water (Ap), with fire and heat (Agni), and the wind (Vayu).
In later Indian thought, these Vedic concepts become formalized into the Samkhya denotation of five great elements (mahabhuta): earth (prthivi), water (jal), fire (tejas), air (vayu), and space (akasa).
