Life insurance and investment giant Prudential Financial Inc. on Wednesday reported first-quarter profit declined 11.9 percent from a year ago, as income fell from its investment division.
Quarterly financial services profit was $675 million, or $1.38 a share, compared with $766 million, or $1.49, for the same period in 2005.

Prudential Financial, Inc. (NYSE:PRU) announced today that is has signed a definitive agreement with Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company to sell its specialty automobile insurance business, THI Holdings, Inc. for a cash consideration of $138 million.
In addition, there will be a dividend distribution of $3.8 million at closing, for a total consideration of $141.8 million, representing a pre-tax loss of about $30 million in comparison to book value.
