Pruno - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Pruno is an alcoholic beverage made from apples and/or oranges, fruit cocktail, ketchup, sugar, and possibly other ingredients.
Depending on the time spent fermenting, the sugar content, and the quality of the ingredients and preparation, pruno's alcohol content by volume can range from as low as 2% (equivalent to a weak beer) to as high as 14% (equivalent to a strong wine).
Ascorbic acid or Vitamin C powder is sometimes used to stop the fermentation at a certain point, which, combined with the tartness of the added acid, somewhat enhances the taste, by reducing the cloyingly sweet flavour associated with pruno.

MAKE YOUR OWN PRUNO AND MAY GOD HAVE MERCY ON YOUR SOUL.   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-14)
Pruno, a prison wine created from fruit, sugar and ketchup, is such a vile and despicable beast in the California state penal system that prisoners can't eat fresh fruit at lunch.
While the County's effort to combat pruno are suspect, there's no deny that pruno is a huge problem, increasing the levels of violence and allowing convicts to continue their had habits while in prison.
The only drawback pruno has, aside from its unappealing tannish-orange color, the white flecks of mold floating on the top and the smell you can't wash off, is its taste.

Brandon asserts that the pruno should have been excluded from evidence because its authenticity could not be adequately established.
The State argues that no chemical test is required when it is "readily apparent that the foodstuffs found had been adulterated in an attempt to make pruno." The State contends that the testimony of the officers established by a preponderance of the evidence that the drink was altered in an attempt to make pruno.
"Pruno" is a term used to describe a crudely fermented alcoholic beverage.

after your pruno has achieved a snugly warmness, wrap it back up in the towel, but use two towels now, because your pruno needs to stay nice and warm for the fermentation to really start working.
