  Przewalskis Horse
Przewalski’s horse is also known as the Asiatic wild horse, the Mongolian wild horse, the Mongolian tarpan, and the taki.
Ironically, when the Przewalski’s horses became extinct in their native habitats from competition, hunting, and displacement, it was the zoo descendants of the captured foals that provided hope for the future.
The release of these horses into their native habitat was made possible by the efforts of concerned scientists and by the legalized protection of the Przewalski’s horses and their habitats.

Domestication of the horse: Encyclopedia topic   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-16)
For horses, the data led to the hypothesis that horses were domesticated in one small area, perhaps around 4600 BC on the grassland steppe (steppe: Extensive plain without trees (associated with eastern Russia and Siberia)) s of Eurasia (Eurasia: The land mass formed by the continents of Europe and Asia).
One idea is that the horses with bit wear were part of the religion, and were kept as objects of veneration; this is clearly the beginning of domestication.
Ancient or early-domesticated horses were relatively small by modern standards, perhaps 12.2 to 14.2 hands high (see horse (horse: Solid-hoofed herbivorous quadruped domesticated since prehistoric times) for explanation of hands) or 1.27 to 1.47 meters, measured at the shoulder.

The Rolex Awards: reintroducing the Przewalski horse to Mongolia, C. Feh
The principal objectives of the Wild Horse Mesh are habitat protection and restoration, and direct action in favour of endangered plants, birds and animals, particularly the Przewalski horse – in close collaboration with, and for the benefit of, nomad families.
In 1992, she established TAKH, an organisation devoted to the restitution of sustainable, independent populations of the Przewalski horse to its native habitat, and the restoration of this habitat.
In preparing for the reintroduction of Przewalski horses to Mongolia from France – the first stage began in September 2004 – it became clear to Feh that the animal’s long-term survival depended on the involvement of the local nomads, whose fast-growing herds of goats and sheep are overgrazing the steppe grassland.

Przewalski's Wild Horse, also known as Asiatic Wild Horse, Mongolian Wild Horse, and Taki, is one of the few equine beasts that has never been domesticated by man. Although they are sometimes hunted for meat, they remain untouched by humans, retaining all of their wild, most primitive behaviors.
Przewalski's Wild Horse is, most likely, a descendent of the same primitive breed that appear in paintings on cave walls.
Because it is traditional for the name of the discover to be included in the name of the horse, the horse was named "Przewalski's Horse." Przewalski officially described the animal, in appearance, habitat and characteristics, in 1881.

There is evidence that the Wassuk Range feral horses Equus caballus exhibit classic feral equine traits such as primitive coloration and Przewalski’s horse Equus przewalskis band structure.
Lack of documented introduction of horse genes from outside the mountain range, has apparently left these horses “virtually undisturbed” for at least seventy-five years.
The Wassuk Range feral horses being genetically isolated for such a long period of time will allow us to compare their DNA to that of various breeds to which it is theorized these feral bands owe their origins.
