eMedicine - Diphyllobothrium Latum Infection : Article by Robert W Tolan, Jr
One of the main differentiating points between the genera of the 2 orders is that the genera of the first order typically have a scolex with 4 suckers whereas the genera of the second order have a scolex with 2 opposing sucking grooves.
Another important point of differentiation is that Cyclophyllidae has 2 hosts in its life cycle whereas Pseudophyllidea requires 3.
Diphyllobothrium is an example of the genera under Pseudophyllidea.

Schistocephalus solidus (Cestoda: Pseudophyllidea) on the foraging and shoaling behaviour of three-spined sticklebacks,
In this paper we review recent experimental work on the effects of the parasite Schistocephalus solidus (Cestoda: Pseudophyllidea) on the feeding behaviour of three-spined sticklebacks (Gasterosteus aculeatus L.).
We also discuss how increased feeding motivation and subsequent altered foraging behaviour may be a mechanism for parasite-associated changes in the shoaling behaviour of infected sticklebacks.

The classification of the cestodes is still the subject of controversy, with only the four orders Tetraphyllidea, Trypanorhyncha, Pseudophyllidea and Cyclophyllidea being universally recognised as orders within the Eucestodes.
There are however many other cestodes, and the following classification, with the eucestodes grouped within 12 orders, is tentatively given as a guide to group as a whole.
In other genera the scolex may be more complex, as with tapeworms of the genus Bothrium, where two tubes with narrow slits at the end make up the holdfast.

The ultrastructural aspects of male gametogenesis and ultrastucture of gametes in the economically important fish tapeworms of the orders Pseudophyllidea and Proteocephallidea were studied within the research of the parasite life strategies.
Eubothrium crassum, Proteocephalus torulosus, Electrotaenia malapteruri) was described including specific organelles (crested body, two types of microtubules) of their spermatozoa.
The results obtained under the detailed study of spermatozoon ultrastructure and gametogenesis have shown that Proteocephalidea plays a key role in a phylogeny of tapeworms (Eucestoda) in that their morphology is considerably similar to evolutionary older tapeworms of the order Tetraphyllidea (from cartilaginous fish).
