The psyche and nature are understood through an oppositional fantasy, and the very logics of psychology and psychotherapy, at least in the analytic tradition, are born out of this opposition.
Psychology carries onward the legacy of Christian inwardness literally in its conception of interiority as human subjectivity, binding the notion of the soul to that of the human over and against a soulless nature.
Psychology and psychotherapy have to enter into the predicament, and this means into the domain of the science - in actuality, they already are in it, though, perhaps, psychologists and psychotherapists have not yet caught up with what is happening.

Peter — SC Psyche, Psychology, Psychiatry
In behavioural study fields there seems to be, at last, the beginnings of a shift away from the traditional belief that the early years of parental care are the primary influence in the development of a social identity and a move towards recognizing the far greater influence of peers.
Similarly, in psychology, psychiatry and behavioural studies, there have been many brave attempts to lift the veil of belief and superstition and the current drive for biological/ genetic cures and fixes provides ample evidence of this.
The more pragmatic practitioners of psychology and psychiatry freely admit that the aim of any analysis and treatment is to return their patients to normally neurotic, such that they can reasonably function within the range of limits set by society’s laws and regulations.

Historically, depth psychology, from a German term (Tiefenpsychologie) coined by Eugen Bleuler, has come to refer to the ongoing development of theories and therapies pioneered by Pierre Janet and C.
The psyche spontaneously generates mythico-religious symbolism and is therefore spiritual as well as instinctive in nature.
Depth psychology rejects as philosophically archaic the absolute Cartesian split between self and other and instead posits a shifting interactive field of subjective and objective activities.  A projection, for instance, is seen as dancing imaginally in the space between the “sender” and the “receiver” of it.

Psychology - It's Definition and Actual Meaning
Modern psychology, due to absurd notions, flawed presumptions, intellectual dullness, observational weakness, blatant prejudice, and tremendous financial concerns ignores the mind completely, and instead concentrates on physiology, and analyzing and controlling animal behavior and responses to environmental factors.
A leading psychological text begins by very carefully saying that today the word "psychology" does not refer to the mind or soul, and "has to be studied by its own history", since it no longer refers to the soul, or even to the mind.
He also adds that psychology may be the "oldest science and unfortunately, in its most essential features a forgotten science." A brief look at history is in order so the reader can understand more of what a true subject of psychology might entail.

Vineeto — SC Psyche, Psychology and Psychiatry — 2
I asked Richard to clarify the difference between ‘mind’ and ‘psyche’ as he uses the terms, and his answer was quite clear: his description of ‘psyche’ was a supernatural ‘life-force’ of sorts, a ghostly metaphysical entity or presence or power or force that is assumed to inhabit the flesh and blood body.
Your claim that ‘psyche’ is not in any way separate from the brain or the flesh and blood body’ contradicts your own experience that in a PCE there was no psyche present — therefore it must be possible to separate the two.
Although your psyche felt itself to be impersonal, it nevertheless overlaid, tainted and re-interpreted the physical world ‘in which this body was moving about’ and thus actuality was as much distorted as it is in normal reality.
