The contrast in the Greek is between soma psychikon and soma pneumatikon.
The word psychikon has to do with soul or human life but is 180 degrees different from what we mean by physical.
The contrast is between a "psychic body" and a "pneumatic body." Paul is contrasting the life of this present age with its burden of sin and corruption and the life of the age to come, fully energized by the Spirit.

Already with Paul the argument is made in I Corinthians against those "senseless, unreasonable ones" who speak of a resurrection of the earthly body.
"Speirati soma psychikon, egeiretai soma pneumatikon." Paul had completely reversed the relationship of the soul and pneuma held in Greek philosophy, and to no avail.
In the Vulgata, the translation of the Greek texts into Latin, Paul's soma psychikon became the literal translation: corpus spiritale.

For this reason, a soma psychikon is "sown in corruption" and raised in incorruption; it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power." "A soma psychikon is sown, and a soma pneumatikon is raised.
There is a soma psychikon and there is a soma pneumatikon!" Both the sarkikon and the psychikon and dominated by death and corruption and so cannot inherit the kingdom of life.
A soma psychikon "from the earth, earthy," or a psyche zosa "from the earth, earthy," would lead to impossible confusion if interpreted from the viewpoint of a dualism which distinguishes between the body and soul, the lower and the higher, the material and the purely spiritual.

Likewise, this inner, monadic sun is at the centre of the human body, the heart.
When it is awakened via intititation, it becomes the means of building the deathless solar body, or soma psychikon of the Gnostics.
As the centre of Light (and blood) in the human being, it precipitates the final illumination of the inititate, the realisation that he is the "alpha and omega, the beginning and the end".

Energies of the Trinity: Palamas and the Filioque
Even though the hypostatic existence and the morphe' are conceptually separate, no one in the West cares, since it is literally impossible for there to be a divine hypostasis without the form/glory/vision of God.
The Western metamorphosis is from form of man to form of God, soma psychikon to soma pneumatikon; this is how we partake of the divine nature and how we see God face-to-face, becoming gods ourselves.
To see God directly (in the Pseudo-Dionysian sense), we must be trans-formed, given to act in a way beyond the limits (form) of man by our own free reception, although not so as to negate the nature of man (viz., we still manifest our natural form as well).

a) In verses 44 and 46 pneumatikon is paired with psychikon.
In the only other place where Paul makes use of this contrast, 2:14-15, he does so in stressing the activity of the Spirit—his sovereign, exclusive work in giving and receiving God's revealed wisdom; pneumatikos (2:15) is the believer (cf.
46 (to psychikon, to pneumatikon) are most likely generalizing expressions (referring to environments or orders of existence), after which it would be a mistake, missing the flow of the argument (note the explicitly cosmological terms of the contrast, "heaven" and "earth" in vv.

It is in contrast to the frailty and transience of Adamic humanity as we have already seen, but as it will not be fully revealed until the Parousia, we cannot be completely sure.

The Secret Fire - Part 2 of 2 - by Garstin
These are, roughly speaking, the Higher Mind, the Reasoning Mind and the Animal Mind, including the passional nature, and in chapters I and II we have already shown how the Higher Mind was regarded by the ancient philosophers.
The three bodies mentioned in the New Testament, corresponding to these three principles, are the spiritual body, the psychic body and the physical body, soma pneumatikon, soma psychikon and soma or sarx, which, in the Upanishads, are called the Causal, Subtile and Gross Bodies.
Of these the first is called a body for want of a better term to describe it, for it belongs properly to the Archetypal World, and is, therefore, virtually beyond form.

From a (relatively) colloquial retelling of the Gospel story - this is the only place the word occurs (in about 140 pages), and I'm not sure if it has a specific theological meaning and a specific English equivalent, or if it's more of a description - any suggestions would be appreciated.
My educated guess is that this refers to "soma psychikon." To be on the safe side, I'd translate "soul body."
