HISTORY: Psychlos are notorius throughout the galaxy as being ruthless miners and the self-proclaimed most powerful beings in the galaxy.
at birth, baby psychlos are submitted to the government and are implanted with a device in their brains which makes them tend toward violence and mercilessness as a side affect.
Psychlos usually attack planets (regardless of current inhabitants) that pose as good places to use as mining worlds or trading posts.

In case I’m not getting this across, the whole animating idea behind the Psychlos, assuming the words ‘idea’ and "Psychlos" can rationally be used in the same sentence, is that they are a metaphor, or a burlesque, or a simile, or some damn thing, for Capitalism Run Amok.
Which seems a bit odd, since all the Psychlos are living in the ruins of a vast human-built metropolis.
It might be thought odd that the Psychlos, who lust after gold and have had possession of the Earth for a thousand years, haven’t stumbled across this huge repository of the metal in all that time.

Psychlos are constantly trying to figure out ways to get something over on each other, calling the concept "leverage." That's a word we hear waaaaaay too much in this movie.

When they reach the Psychlos' city they start to choke from the strange atmosphere inside the dome until one of the Psychlos helpfully gives them all breathe-rite strips which magically makes it all better.
After this we get a bunch of scenes that go basically nowhere but somehow manage to get across the basic idea of the plot, such as it is. Terl is stuck on Earth mining gold because apparently he did something untoward with a senator's daughter back home, and now he's being punished.
He then thoughtfully trains our hero to speak Psychlo, and also to do Euclidian geometry and molecular biology (all of which have direct application to gold mining, obviously), by shooting a beam of education directly into his eyes.

Each psychlo site is destroyed in turn when they open the gateway to teleport their ore home.
This doesn't help much, as even once the psychlos reveal all they know about their mathematics, it turns out thazt Terl is the only one who knows about the teleportation circuitry and mathematics.
The objects in the psychlos are the equivalent of BTs which control the psychlos acions.

Basically, it's the year 3000, an ugly group of corrupt back-stabbing aliens (the Psychlo's) have wiped out nearly all Earthlings and the remaining few are used as slaves to mine gold for their home planet (I'm not sure why gold is valuable to aliens).
Travolta (lead Psychlo) in an effort to better control the humans explains, "We'll let it think it's escaped, just to see what food it likes best..." as if the monopoly on oxygen wasn't enough to motivate "it".
To the Psychlo's the chattering of humans sounded like "Ooga ooga" animalistic or fraternal (in the college sense of the word).
