Identity performance: Even if a transgender identity is revealed to others, a failure to act upon it in the context of the relationship may negatively affect mental health.
Identity congruence: Even if others are aware of transgender identity (identity awareness), and this identity is acted upon in the context of the relationship (identity performance), a failure of relationship partners to respond in terms of this identity may be disconcerting.

OJPCR 1.2 -- The Uses of Territories in Conflicts
From a phenomenological perspective, it is as important to the individual to maintain his or her identity as it is to preserve life in a biological sense.
A weak collective identity, say through lack of recognition from the environment, may reinforce the tendency to be attracted to everything that emits an aura of strength and power, such as weapons, mass manifestations, discipline, uniforms and displays of courage and determination.
In this essay I have outlined a psychological framework for analysing and interpreting the role of territoriality in social conflicts.

A being at a later time is psychologically connected with someone who exists at an earlier time if the later being has the psychological features she has at the later time in large part because the earlier being had the psychological features she had at the earlier time.

Running head: RACIAL IDENTITY, AND ADJUSTMENT   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-24)
Racial identity is defined as a sense of collective identity based on one’s perception that he or she shares a common racial heritage with a particular racial or ethnic group (Helms, 1990).
These beliefs and attitudes are indicated by four dimensions: awareness of one’s Black identity and heritage; recognition of the necessity of customs and values that affirm Black life; participation in a movement toward the survival, liberation, and development of Black people; and the recognition of, and opposition to racial oppression (Sabnani and Ponterotto, 1992).
Students’ distress was also lower when parents were less psychologically distressed themselves, when they used racial attributions to explain the failures of Black people, and when children experienced less impact of the illness on their lives.

MARCIA's Identity Status Model is based on two core variables: commitment (which is determined within a certain life domain) and exploration (describing the way in which a person came to have or not to have a certain commitment).
For instance, she found that in general identity statuses depend heavily on demographic variables, such as education, age, and migration, and that one always has to consider results for each separate subgroup.

A Metaphysical Manifesto for Translated Travelers   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-24)
According to the Psychological Account as we have so-far developed it, second-person Kelly is indeed the woman who stepped into the telepod, no matter what the Federation decides, although she is certainly not the woman who was killed on Mars.
But the present claim of the psychological account is that your duplicate woke up this morning when you did and did all the the things you did today (because it did them too); you and your duplicate are different branches in the life of the person you both were last night.
However, what the psychological account would claim is that if it were possible to duplicate all strong and deep psychological connections (by whatever means) then one would have re-instantiated a soul, that the survival of future selves involves the continuity of just such connections.

Parfit’s Psychological Criterion will entail that Kirk does not survive, and he uses this result to argue that it is continuity (or continuity and connectedness), and not numerical identity, that matters to us when we wish for continued survival.
The Psychological Criterion need not and should not regard the temporal overlap of stages in time travel as a branching of continuity; on the other hand, whether or not there is temporal overlap in the Kirk cases, they both clearly involve the sort of branching of continuity that Parfit wanted his no-branching clause to preclude.
Survival is not identity because of the fact that survival is intransitive because of the role of connectedness in survival, as Lewis conceives it.

 Transracial Adoptees Psychological Adjustment
Through the use of survey questionnaires, the study accessed the racial and cultural identity and psychological adjustment of 51 adult transracial adoptees (ages 19-36 years old) who were the biological offspring of at least one non-White individual and who were adopted by two White parents.
"Perhaps the psychological adjustment of transracial adoptees may be influenced more by their parental and family relationships, peer relationships, achievement, or a host of other factors than by the racial and often cultural differences that exist in transracially adopting families," says study author Amanda L Baden, Ph.D., of St. John's University.
