Psygnosis was a British video game publisher that released moody computer games boasting psychedelic cover art by Yes artist Roger Dean.
Psygnosis also programmed several of the in-show video games that were in Nick Arcade, a Nickelodeon game show from the early 90's that revolved around games.
Psygnosis was acquired by Sony in 1993 to work on the new PlayStation machine, and in 1999 eventually lost the Psygnosis branding to become known as Sony Studio Liverpool.

ODT is often creditted with the death of the company, but plenty of other companies have released total stinkers and still lived to tell the tale (see square and almost their entire lineup.
It seemed to me (with games like Colony Wars and G-Police) they were beginning to create their own little universe in which games may not be related to each other in any way other than just taking place in the same "world".
For a long time it was between Polyphony Digital and Psygnosis as to who had the best graphics on the PS1.

i think psygnosis were awesome on the amiga platform with titles like shadow of the beast 1-3, agony, lemmings and walker.
Psygnosis was founded by Ian Hetherington and Jonathan Ellis, the Liverpool-based Psygnosis was essentially born from the ashes of defunct 8-bit game company Imagine, where Hetherington was Financial Director.
What's interesting is that Psygnosis was just a publisher for DMA Design (Dave Jones?) and Reflections (Martin Edmonson?) who were the developers who actually did the work.
