Ptahhotep was notably "inspector of the priests of the pyramid of Isesi, of the wab-priests of the pyramid of Niuserre (and) of the priests of the pyramid of Menkauhor".
Enthroned on his splendid seat, Ptahhotep receives official reports from an official at the front of the third register, while around him servants fuss with his outward appearance: one adjusts his wig and beard, another brings linen and a third, a pedicure expert, smears his feet with a fragrant ointment (view 16).
Ptahhotep attends the presentation of the animals captured in the desert - mainly of herbivores, one of which he is going to attempt to domesticate - or raise in the funerary domains, primarily those for cattle.

Said to be the grand uncle and known to be the tutor of Pharaoh Assa Djed-Ka-Ra (2388-2356 BCE), Ptahhotep was thought to be of noble birth, in fact, the eldest son of a pharaoh.
Ptahhotep was reputed to have been 110-years-old when he wrote his book, which was published under the imposing title Teachings of the Prefect of the City, Dja Ptahhotep under the Majesty of the King of the South and the North, Assa Djed-Ka-Ra.
A final strength of Ptahhotep’s work is his succinct, eloquently-stated views on a number of topics central to African leadership success like marriage, friendship, child-rearing, conflict resolution and the perils of greed and lust.

Ptahhotep's work, adhering to the Memphite accent on discourse, aims to propose a "way of life" valid for everybody.
My translation was inspired by the work of Dévaud (1916), Zába (1956), Lichtheim (1975), Lalouette (1984), Brunner (1991) and Jacq (1993) and distances itself from an approach which deviates too much from the original text, such as the questionable translation of Laffont (1979), or which limits itself to the translation of only a few maxims.
In the case of Ptahhotep, this would be suggestive of a "Memphite school" or a community of scribes working in the House of Life of the temple of Ptah at Memphis.
