		The John Snow pub is visible in the background, a few steps further along the road at the corner of Broadwick Street and Lexington Street.
		The stairs at the rear of the pub lead to the John Snow room on the second floor where memories of the pub's namesake are recorded for those given permission to enter.
		The building housing the John Snow pub was built in the 1870s and was originally called the "Newcastle-upon-Tyne." Although John Snow was apprenticed in 1827 to a Newcastle-upon-Tyne surgeon, William Hardcastle, there is no evidence that the previous name of the inn was other than fortuitous.

		Peculier Pub is a small, dank hole in the ground, a pit where one can crawl off to at the end of a day and drink to 'get rid of the pain of being a man'.
		The waitresses at Peculier Pub have been described a number of times as being 'vengeful and moody', and nothing in my experience has given me any reason to disagree with this assessment.
		Rather than making them disagreeable and uninteresting, as one might think, it is these qualities that make the waitresses of Peculier Pub as intriguing as they are, and may be responsible for much of the Pub's return business (or maybe it's simply my own masochistic tendencies).

		Finding a decent pub on a Saturday night can be bloody hard work.
		The pub - which features traditional British decor like a framed painting of Big Ben and a stuffed fish over the mantle - was designed by Airquee, a Welsh company that specializes in blow-ups (you may remember its 47-foot-tall Gothic cathedral).
