PUB operator Punch Taverns yesterday toasted a successful year after around 1,000 new pubs helped double takings.
The company, which has nearly 200 pubs in Merseyside, 50 in Wirral and 200 in Cheshire, said revenues jumped 101% to £1.5bn in the 12 months to August 19, sending pre-tax profits up 21% to £250m.
It came after Punch took the number of pubs it operates up to 9,250 with the acquisition of rival operator Spirit Group for £2.7bn in January.
