		Public law is the law governing the relationship between individuals (citizens, companies) and the state.
		Public law is that law which is passed by either the provincial legislatures or by the federal Parliament.
		Most laws that have penal or criminal penalties are considered to be public law as these laws are intended to protect all members of society and not just the areas of interaction that are covered by contract and tort.

		In the case of an acknowledgment, the notary public certifies as to the identity and execution of a document; the affidavit involves the administration of an oath to the affiant.

	Public Law 280
		Public Law 83-280, the 280th Public Law enacted by the 83rd Congress in 1953 (2), was a substantial transfer of jurisdiction from the federal government to the states in Indian country.
		Public Law 280 was enacted in the 1950’s - a period of termination and assimilation in Indian country - and it must be examined and understood within the context of the time period in which it was enacted.
		Public Law 280, however, differed from earlier grants of jurisdiction to the states in that it allowed every state to assume jurisdiction at their own option at any time in the future.

		Unpublished works when the death date of the author is not known may still be copyrighted, but certification from the Copyright Office that it has no record to indicate whether the person is living or died less than 70 years before is a complete defense to any action for infringement.
		Presumption as to the author's death requires a certified report from the Copyright Office that its records disclose nothing to indicate that the author of the work is living or died less than seventy years before.
