The Bharat Gold Mines Ltd (BGML) is a public sector undertaking under the ministry of mines, government of India.
John Taylor and sons, in the Kolar Gold Field were nationalized as Kolar Gold Mine Undertaking in 1956 by the Government of Karnataka and in 1972, the Union Ministry of Steel and Mines created Bhartat Gold Mine Ltd (BGML) as a public sector undertaking.
It is said that after the people’s complaint and public protests the Government of Karnataka had asked the BGML management to hand over the maintenance of sanitary and water works to Robertsonpet City Municipality.

The unions were all the more surprised since the Section 25 (O) route has rarely, if ever, been used to close down a public sector undertaking in similar circumstances - namely, where parallel proceedings for closure are on and a substantial workforce still remains on the payroll.
Ever since the BGML was earmarked for closure, the unions have collected a formidable body of evidence to show why (unlike some other public sector undertakings) it can be a viable commercial enterprise.
