Jobs in Public School - Public School Review
School safety may be a slightly bigger issue in public schools than it is in private schools.
Teaching in a public school setting requires a bachelor’s degree, either in education or in the subject to be taught.
Public school districts sometimes post their needs on “commercial” job search sites such as Monster.com (keyword “public school”), careerbuilder.com (keyword “public school”), and hotjobs.com (keyword “public school”).

Public school choice is a critical component of (NCLB because it offers a student enrolled in a Title I school that is in need of improvement an opportunity to attend another school, even as his or her original school is undergoing improvement.
The choice to attend another public school is available to all students enrolled in schools that are in their first year of school improvement status and for subsequent years that the school remains identified for improvement.
School districts must offer students with disabilities and those eligible under Section 504 the opportunity to be educated in a school that has not been identified as in need of school improvement and has not been identified by the State as persistently dangerous, if nondisabled students have that opportunity.

Public school - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In most English-speaking nations (but not England or Wales), a public school is a school that is financed and run by the government and does not charge tuition fees in order for children to attend.
The schools and their representative associations prefer the term "independent schools", but the news media in England and common usage often refer to them by the traditional name of "public schools".
Public school is normally split up into three stages: Primary (Elementary) School (Kindergarten to 5th or 6th grade), Junior High (Intermediate) School (6th or 7th to 8th or 9th) and High School (9th or 10th to 12th), with some less populated communities incorporating high school as 7th to 12th.

Independent school (United Kingdom) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A public school (in the independent sense) usually teaches children from the ages of 11 (for girls) or 13 (for boys) to 18, and was traditionally a single-sex boarding school, although many now accept day pupils and are coeducational.
John's School, Leatherhead, Epsom College and the City of London School, another day school (which derived from a mediƦval foundation of 1442) was reconstituted by a private Act of Parliament in 1835 and was held to be a public school by the Divisional Court in the case of Blake vs. City of London in 1886.
University College School, founded in 1830 as part of University College London, was unique in that it neither took boarders nor gave religious education; indeed, by not limiting its intake to a specific religious denomination, it gained the claim of being the first truly "public" school, open to all.

In England and Wales, one of a small number of prestigious historic schools open to the public which normally charge fees and are financed by bodies other than the state, commonly as private charitable trusts; here the word "public" is used much as in "public house".
The term public school tends to be associated with older, more prestigious fee-paying schools (for example, Eton, Harrow), but the distinction between these and other fee-paying schools is not well-defined.
In India, due to the influence of the British rule duing the 1700-1947, the term 'public schools' imply non-governmental historically elite educational institutions.

Against School, by John Taylor Gatto
Mass schooling of a compulsory nature really got its teeth into the United States between 1905 and 1915, though it was conceived of much earlier and pushed for throughout most of the nineteenth century.
Schools are to establish fixed habits of reaction to authority.
Schools are meant to tag the unfit - with poor grades, remedial placement, and other punishments - clearly enough that their peers will accept them as inferior and effectively bar them from the reproductive sweepstakes.

What is taught at most public schools is also important.
While you do end up paying school taxes and you are required to purchase school supplies for your child, you will find that the cost of attending a public school is significantly lower than the cost of attending a private school.
However, it is also important to note that many private schools have scholarship programs or financing options for parent's who would like their children to attend a private school, but cannot afford to send them to one.

Parents in Louisville, Ky., and Seattle are challenging school assignment plans that factor in a student's race in an effort to have individual school populations approximate the racial makeup of the entire system.
The school policies in contention are designed to keep schools from segregating along the same lines as neighborhoods.
But the policy denigrates children's self-worth by color-coding them throughout their school years, said the legal brief for Crystal Meredith, the Louisville parent who sued after her son was denied his first choice of which school to attend.

Court justices wrestle with desegregation arguments - USATODAY.com   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-07)
WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court today stepped into the debate over voluntary public school integration plans, with justices questioning whether programs in two districts are an acceptable move toward student diversity or another name for illegal racial quotas.
In separate arguments involving school districts in Seattle and Louisville, justices referred repeatedly to a 2003 Supreme Court ruling that permitted the limited consideration of race to attain a diverse student body on the college level.
Kennedy said the "key" is that only some students get the schools they prefer, and suggested at several points that such a plan wrongly discriminates based on race.
