Publication of catalogues raisonnés, often in multiple volumes, is invariably costly, yet immediately upon publication, they fall out of date: an unknown work surfaces, a date is revised, an attribution is challenged, ownership changes.
Research and publication are independent, sequential steps in the prevailing print-world scenario, but catalogues are precisely the sort of scholarship that would be enhanced by a more dynamic electronic process that allowed research and publication to overlap and inform one another in a feedback loop.
Publication of these events tends to be limited to the symposia though, for the very good reason that not every observation or comment in an informal gathering of scholars needs to be recorded.

A copy of a contract or letter of agreement from the journal editor or publisher (or analogous person) indicating final acceptance for publication and including the clauses that stipulate the author's assumption of the expenses for which the subvention is requested.

 Campus Research Board: Publication Subvention - U of I
A publication subvention is sometimes required by a publisher to help defray the expenses of publishing a scholarly book.
Stipulates that the subvention is necessary for the book to be published, as in the case where the anticipated sale is too small or too slow to permit timely recovery by the publisher of initial production expenses.
The board must be advised of the specific terms of the proposed contract between author and publisher, including the subvention required and the terms under which any revenue generated by the sale of the work shall be returned to the author.

To be eligible for consideration for a subvention, the author of the book must be a member of the Medieval Academy who holds a Ph.D. and must be untenured.
The book to be considered for a subvention must be the author's first, must focus substantially on the Middle Ages, must be of high scholarly and intellectual merit, and must have been accepted for publication.
The publisher must have accepted the book for publication based on its merits and must show that the subvention is required in order for the book to be published at a reasonable cost.

 Aldo and Jeanne Scaglione Publication Award for a Manuscript in Italian Literary Studies
Eligibility: Manuscripts approved or ready for publication before award deadline; authors must be current members of the MLA residing in the United States or Canada.
The prize is awarded each year to an author of an outstanding manuscript dealing with any aspect of the languages and literatures of Italy, including medieval Latin and comparative studies or intellectual history if the work's main thrust is clearly related to the humanities.
