I found myself rechecking the dates all the time -- flipping back to the beginning of the chapter where the consuls and year are listed, sketching out a basic timeline in my head -- to make sure I wasn't totally lost.
Still, I loved how she used big, newsy letters to relay events, especially Publius Rutilius Rufus' letters to Marius.
I actually was put off by this at first, however I soon came to appreciate Publius Rutilius Rufus' style of writing.
