Pudhumaipithan is the pseudonym of Viruthachalam (April 25, 1906 - May 5, 1948), one of the most influential and revolutionary writers of Tamil fiction.
Pudhumaipithan broke the long standing myth that successful creations in the Tamil language needed to be either in the Chennai or Tanjore style of Tamil.
Pudhumaipithan wrote under different pseudonyms, but the name "Pudhumaipithan" was the one that became famous.

I'm posting this with tears in my eyes, cursing myself for not appreciating the genius that is our Thenisai Thendral all these days.
I had the great fortune of watching a "Tamil Movie Melodies" cassette, and it had the songs of "PudhumaiPithan" in it.
I should consider myself a "Bhajyashali" to see the song "Ujala Ujala...", really a treat to your eyes and the best of the treat to your ears.
