Pudong is bounded by the Huangpu river in the west and the East China Sea in the east.
Pudong is contrasted with Puxi, the older part of Shanghai on the west bank of the Huangpu river.

Citibank will buy 5 percent of Shanghai Pudong Development Bank, the Chinese bank said on Thursday, in its first deal to buy into a Chinese financial institution.
Pudong Bank said on Tuesday that Citibank was becoming a strategic investor but gave no further details of the size of the stake.

Shanghai will have a second terminal at Pudong International Airport by the end of 2007, which airport officials say will add another 40 million passengers a year to the passenger-handling capacity.
