Pulse (music) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A pulse may be an unheard event underlining a piece or metric level, thus the tempo of the piece is how fast the pulse is running, implied by the performer or listener based on context or past experience, or audible such as in Terry Riley's In C.
A pulse that is regularly accented is a meter.
Pulse groups may further be distinguished as synchronous, if all pulses on slower levels coincide with those on faster levels, and nonsynchronous, if not.

Elements of Music - Part Two
Pre-Christian religions used meter in their music; however, with the advent of Christianity in the West, meter was disavowed for use during worship by the early Church fathers as pagan as was the use of musical instruments.
Musical "beat" is grouped into repeated patterns by accent involving the first beat of a particular unit of time (measure or bar).
Tempo indications are of no particular interest to the average listener of music except that they are used to designate various movements of multi-movement works and are often used in the titles of compositions from the common practice period of music (1800 A. to the present).

Steel Pulse were one of Britain's greatest reggae bands, rivaled only by Aswad in terms of creative and commercial success.
Steel Pulse initially had difficulty finding live gigs, as club owners were reluctant to give them a platform for their "subversive" Rastafarian politics.
In keeping with the spirit of the times, Steel Pulse developed a theatrical stage show that leavened their social commentary with satirical humor; many of the members dressed in costumes that mocked traditional British archetypes (Riley was a vicar, McQueen a bowler-wearing aristocrat, Martin a coach footman, etc.).

Non repeating melodic textures allow the mind to focus on the exercises, not the music, while rhythmic textures and pulses give a flow and tempo to the workout.
Each musical piece builds upon the previous one, and the introduction of some unexpected musical “colors” enhances the texture and interest and helps to maintain the energy and focus generated during yoga practice.

"Pulse" is an apt title, with the music still relying on a strong beat as the backbone.
With so many palettes of sound going on, it's a good thing that the beats were toned down to allow the listener to hear the music as a work of music and sound, not just as something to dance to.
Much of this material could easily be remixed to be danceable, or even transformed for live performances (as the band is known for altering their music to suit the live environment, I wouldn't be surprised of a song like "Triple X Girlfriend" could be made danceable in live shows).
