		The panorama starts looking roughly west, with the coastline of Cardigan Bay in the left distance, and on the right, the western part of Nant-y-moch reservoir at Pumlumon's foot.
		To the right of the reservoir, directly above the patch of stony ground, is the rounded grassy hump of Pumlumon Fach; above that again is another rounded grassy whaleback - Banc Llechwedd Mawr; and on the skyline above that are the Tarren hills, beyond the Dyfi estuary.
		Right of the cairn is Pen Pumlumon Arwystli - the second highest summit of the Plynlimon range.

		Pumlumon and Caerleon, two halls of residence that have provided a home for generations of students at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, will be officially re-opened today, Wednesday 20 December, by the University's President, Lord Elystan Morgan.

		Nant yr Eira in Hafren, on the slopes of Pumlumon, the earliest mine in the forest, has been dated by radiocarbon analysis to the Bronze Age.

		Another ascent route well worth avoiding is from Hafren forest in the east - unless of course you would enjoy miles of monotonous walking through conifer forest before you escape onto the open mountain.
		Much of the land on this side is Crown Common, so you don't have to keep to the public rights of way, and there is practically a free choice of route to the high ground.

		The cache (an ammo box) is about 500m ENE of Pen Pumlumon Fawr (752m/2468') and is hidden under a boulder (part of a boulder field) on a very steep slope above Llyn Llygad Rheidol.

		Returned to the ridge and went on to Pen Pumlumon Arwystli to explore the delights of the area before returning to Pumlumon Fawr and back over Drum Peithnant and back down to the dam.
