		Pump is the tenth studio album by American hard rock band Aerosmith, released in 1989 (see 1989 in music).
		Pump was widely acclaimed by both fans and critics upon its release.
		Additionally, it is the only Aerosmith album to date to have three Top 10 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 and three #1 singles on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart.

		Pumps fall into three categories: positive displacement, kinetic (centrifugal), and jet (eductor).
		A positive displacement pump causes a fluid to move by trapping a fixed volume of water and then forcing (displacement) that trapped volume into the receiving pipe.
		A centrifugal pump causes a fluid to move by transferring the kinetic (rotational) energy from a motor (through an impeller) into water pressure (potential energy).

		Pump, in my opinion is a milestone for Aerosmith because, at the time, it really was the first to connect them with the youth again, for the first time since the seventies.

		When placed in perspective, Pump is not a bad album, but coming off of the critical and creative success of Permanent Vacation, Aerosmith was going to have a hard time topping their last effort.
		Things start off at a decent enough clip, with the one-two kidney punch that is "Young Lust" and "F.I.N.E." The band does seem to be at their tightest musically, crunching through these songs and leaving no doubt that singles like "Rag Doll" and "Dude (Looks Like A Lady)" were no flukes.
		Whatever the case, Pump is a step backwards for Aerosmith, but not a fatal one.

		After having accomplished the goal of getting back on the rock/pop radar with its previous album, Aerosmith decided the Great White North, particularly Vancouver, was the place to set about making an enormous comeback in the United States.
		Although some of the songs within sound a bit dated, perhaps due to their saturation of FM Rock radio, most of the album still sounds extremely new and timeless.
		Not entirely stellar from top to bottom, but when the group still hits paydirt with some of the album's songs, it can't be all that bad.
