Pump up the Volume (film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Pump Up the Volume (1990) is a dramedy written and directed by Allan Moyle and starring Christian Slater and Samantha Mathis.
Most of the adults were portrayed as authoritarian and corrupt, and the film seemed to have all the standard conventions of a teenage exploitation film.
The film was scoffed at by many pirate radio operators and enthusiasts, however, for inaccurate portrayal of FCC enforcement, such as scenes of the FCC chairman holding a press conference to announce his arrival and federal agents patrolling in brightly marked yellow vans.

In chapter four of book four of the first volume, Don Quixote refers to such enchanters bringing friends to a knight's aid and transporting them to their own homes for dinner afterwards, though the home was several thousand miles from the battlefield.
This is a reference to the common cartoon trope of a skeleton escaping a character's mouth in fright, and possibly a reference to the Ray Bradbury short story "Skeleton".
He picks up the radio and says, "McBain to base, under attack by Commi-Nazis." These "Commi-Nazis" combine Russian Communism and Nazi ideology, and use a mix of the Swastika and Hammer and Sickle on a red background as their standard, which is particularly ironic, considering the incompatibility of the two ideologies.

This course can scarcely fail to introduce into the sand many bacteria, which may be washed through when the full working of the filters is begun; and it should not, therefore, be adopted when the source of the supply is known to be subject to human pollution.
The cost, however—to say nothing of the uncertainty—where large volumes of water are concerned, much exceeds the cost of obtaining initially safe water.
The effect is to produce between the sand or other grains a glutinous substance which does the work per-farmed by the mud and microbes upon the surface of the sand filter.
