Pump action shotgun - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Pump action shotguns, also called slide action repeating shotguns or slide action shotguns are a subclass of shotguns that are distinguished in the way in which spent shells are extracted and fresh ones are chambered.
The pump-action design on modern pump shotguns is a little slower than on a semi-automatic shotgun, but the pump-action offers greater flexibility in selection of shotshells, allowing the shooter to mix different types of loads and for using low-power or unreliable loads.
The pump action shotgun was invented by John Browning, who favored it over the earlier lever-action shotgun that he had also designed.

Answer: The correct answer is B. While friction, both by the mechanical pump action and air molecule collisions, adds some small amounts of heat, the main effect is that the pumping process is basically an adiabatic (no heat loss) process.

Remington 870 wingmaster Trap? Pump Action??
Since I'm new I don't know that the pump action is really an acceptable option, but I'm curious about the thoughts of those who do have experience, and the true applicable use of the pump action in sporting clays, trap or skeet.
That would explain the abscence of pump actions in the sport, I guess I just never thought of the ejection of shells landing at a distance to intrude others.
I don't claim to be very good with a pump action, but I know a few die hard pump action truists that are that way.

However, in a panicy, tense situation such as you describe (may it never happen) she may be too flustered to use a pump if she is not used to the action she is required to make.
A hidden advantage of a pump is that the sound of a shell being chambered is unmistakeable to anybody who might be violating the sanctity of your domicile.
There are several factors - a pump has a warning sound, which may or may not fit the tactical situation; in addition, if you are contemplating using it in an outdoor confrontation, it is difficult to cycle a pump from a prone firing position.

Modern Firearms - Shotguns - Intro
First well known military use of shotguns is dated back to the Great War (1st World War), when Allied forces used various pump-action and self-loading shotguns in the trench warfare.
The shotguns were and still are used for hunting, since multiple projectiles increase the chances to hit the target with one shot, but shotguns also were used in combat in almost all wars since their introduction.
Most combat shotguns were and still are the adaptations of commercial, hunting firearms for the new role, but during the last three decades of the XX century some specialized combat shotguns were developed.
