A castle hill in Engline (9 kilometres from Punsk to the north) is their inharitance.

Punsk district consists of 33 villages with population of 4635 people, 80% of them are Lithuanians and about 20% - Polish.
Smalenai is the separate centre, to it belong some villages from Punsk district.
In 1991 the international fairs and economical forums started in Punsk and that was the beginning of the House of Economy of Poland-Lithuania which are opened in Suvalkai.

There are no exact news when Punsk received the rights of the town, it is only quessed that it happened between 1597-1606 because in 1606 the documents already notice about the town-dwellers and since 1612 the town is called Punsk.
In 1781 the population of Punsk parish was 8849 and after a hundred years there were already 12 000 inhabitants.
The messenger from this country in 1917 at the conference in Vilnius was the priest - dekan Motiejus Simonaitis, who is buried in the cemetery of Punsk.

Punsk secretary Jonas Vaiciulis told BNS that the money would suffice for completion of this school year.
Six Lithuanian schools could be closed down in Poland due to financial problems this year, including five schools in the Punsk and one in the Sejny districts.

The forester of Przelom transfers his residence to the Pomorze manor, and the forester-of Merecz to the Nowy Punsk manor.
The townsmen of Punsk are mentioned in the chronicles as early as 1606.
The town was built by the new proprietor of the Sejny estate, Jerzy Grodzinski who soon before his death, in 1602, donated his estate (1town, 3farms, 4 villages) together with with the lakes in the wilderness which he had purchased to the Dominican Fathers brought to Sejny.

In 1999-2001, 100 inhabitants of Punsk District, aged 65 and over, belonging to different ethnic groups and regions were examined.
The results showed that the average level of health care in Punsk Distric corresponded to the general level of rural districts in Poland, and health prophylaxis involved only services offered by health care institutions.
A comparison of health self-evaluation indices for various districts of Poland showed that in Punsk District the least percentage of inhabitants considered their health status as good or very good.
