The settlements gradually grew until the leaders felt that it was ripe for township and filed a petition to the proper authorities to have a settlement concerted into a town.
However, Pura’s recognition and political status as a town did not last long, as for unknown cause, the town was reverted into its original status as barrio in 1903 again under the political jurisdiction of the municipality of Gerona.
In 1919, during the second incumbency of DON FELIX MELEGRITO, about 2000 hectares of agricultural land at the eastern portion of Pura were ceded and became territorial part of Guimba, Nueva Ecija, by virtue of court decision establishing the territorial delineation sepoarating the towns of Pura, Tarlac and Guimba Nueva Ecija.

In a statement, the lawyers of Yap said that the youngest son of the incoming  2nd district representative and incumbent Governor Jose “Aping” Yap won fair and square and that no intimidation and vote-buying incident occurred in the 3rd district where Cojuangco is contesting the results in Concepcion and Bamban towns.
Tarlac Governor and second district congressional candidate Jose V. Yap said the proposal is very much welcome in the province because it would give Tarlaquenos an alternative to the many crops already being planted by its farmers.

PURA, Tarlac—Not one of the government troops who foiled a plan of the New People’s Army (NPA) to attack military and civilian installations was killed in the two-day battle that raged here on Monday and Tuesday, the military said on Wednesday.
He said at least 250 government troops were deployed in Sitio Umangan to flush out some 50 rebels who converged on Pura in preparation for attacks on military outposts and police detachments.
An NPA spokesman, Serafin Magdiwang of the NPA Nelson Mesina Command operating in Tarlac, confirmed that guerrillas have retreated from the battle and claimed that at least nine government soldiers were killed and several civilian casualties.

TARLAC CITY –; Militants and human rights activists are holding the Armed Forces’ Northern Luzon Command (NOLCOM) and the Central Luzon regional police office responsible for the alleged string of disappearances and "spurious" arrests of leaders and members of the left-leaning party-list, Bayan Muna.
Earlier, Emil Paragas, Tarlac provincial vice chair of the human rights group, Karapatan, said they have so far documented the disappearance and "illegal arrest" of at least six activists affiliated with the militant party-list in the provinces Tarlac, Nueva Ecija and Aurora.
Last February 25, Paragas said that the entire Barangay Maasin in Pura, Tarlac was "militarized" when combined police and military elements were reportedly looking for Lupito Mauricio, a member of the militant Alyansa ng mga Magbubukid sa Tarlac (AMT) and a Bayan Muna organizer.

TARLAC CITY — Engineer Benjamin Lopez, district engineer, of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) based in Parsolingan, Gerona, Tarlac, said yesterday that the DPWH has completed a water system in Pura, Tarlac that benefitted thousands of residents.
He said that work on the project were the construction of an administrative building, installation of distribution pipe lines and the provision of water pumps, generator sets, and other electric and mechanical works.
The project addressed the problem of Pura folk who, before the construction of the water system, were dependent on shallow wells for their drinking water, jeopardizing their health and safety.

CIDG agents and several Tarlac policeman raided Tarlac policeman last Wednesday the houses of barangay chairman Felino Millo Jr., 47, of Poblacion 1; and SPO1 Emmanuel Basilio, 42, a member of the Pura police force by virtue of a search warrant issued by Tarlac Regional Trial Court branch 65 Judge Bitty Viliran.
Found in Millo’s house were an M-16 Armalite about 470 rounds of ammunition, and 32 short and long magazines for M-16 and Carbine.
Andrei Felix of the Tarlac CIDG said the raids on the houses of Millo and Basilio were part of “OPlan Paglalansag Omega” of the national police.
