Purist - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Comic book and manga purists sometimes vocalize their dislike of conversion of material into television or films, which is allegedly often modified to appeal to a more mainstream audience to varying degrees of skill.
The Lord of the Rings purists, also known as Tolkienists, were mostly dedicated fans of the LotR novels before the film trilogy adaptation was created, often cite their dislike of at least certain scenes (such as the altered introduction of Arwen into the Fellowship of the Ring).
Baseball purists also usually dislike the "designated hitter" rule, in which the pitcher is replaced in the offensive lineup by a batter who does not play a defensive field position; The American League began using this rule in 1973.

The Two Towers: The Purist Edit - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Two Towers: The Purist Edit is a fan edit of the movie The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.
Some of the "purist" fans believe this version to be superior to the original release.
While The Phantom Edit has been seen by fans as a way of removing the aspects of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace that offended many casual moviegoers, The Two Towers: The Purist Edit has appealed primarily to hardcore, die-hard fans who have taken pains to highlight the differences between the book and the movie.

To this end, the purist seeks out adventure and deeds in which to publicize to the rest of the world how great members of their race were, are and always be.

History and Timeline:Icarus Age - VsWiki
It was at this time that the Purist faction gained dominance in the Sol system and the explanation of the catastrophe as the result of Man's hubris resounded well and drew followers to their extremist sub-factions, who would merge to become the "Interstellar Church of True Form's Return".
Mining in the belt resumed, but many of the moon colonies were not repopulated for some time due to Purist reluctance against adapting to environments so alien and hostile to human life when such adaptation is not deemed necessary.
Notably, the absence of a human colony on Titan means that it once again has residents in the form of the Rlaan embassy, but while humanity operates throughout the Sol system, the population is centered on Earth and Mars.

A purist, or Tolkien purist, is someone who considers Tolkien's work as the Middle-earth canon, and shouldn't be desecrated by others.
The purist hates or is totally cold towards fan fiction.
The term came to be used widely since the movies came out: The purist dislikes the LotR films made by Peter Jackson (more rarely - also the cartoons), or at least strongly critisise them for certain scenes, e.g.

It would also obviate the need for the "Edit Text" link on Wikis, since all content is editable on the client (though perhaps an alternate representation of the page would be needed to edit it); the hard part is trying to PUT it back to the server.
From a purist point of view, I'm confident that content negotiation would be the means by which an editable version should be retrieved.
I think the idea is that, if you have PUT available, you actually edit the resource (as with Amaya, for example), and PUT it back, but if you don't, you use the edit form and POST it.

While a lot of the editing is pretty good, some causes feelings of abruptness and draws attention the fact that things were excised.
But the Purist Edit is still a vast improvement, story-wise over Jackson's telling.

Commands that the user types in may be edited using the same control characters that Gnu Emacs or vi uses.
The pattern used to search through the history is defined by the characters from the beginning of the line up to the current cursor position and may contain a shell glob- bing pattern.
Any other character, that isn't bound to self-insert- command, terminates the search, leaving the current command line in the editing buffer, after which tcsh interprets the character as if it was normal input - notably Return will cause the current command line to be executed.

Too close to being a kind of synthesis of Ravel's original for solo piano (1899) and version for full orchestra (1910), I find Deodato's funky adaptations of Stauss's "Also Sprach Zarathustra" and, particularly Debussy's "Prelude to the afternoon of a faun" somewhat more worthwhile.
