Purley-on-Thames - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The original village of Purley was located at the edge of the flood-plain of the River Thames, where the valley side starts to rise sharply.
The area of Purley Riverside has grown up on the flood-plain towards the river in a rather unplanned fashion, with many homes ranging from converted rail carriages to self-built modernistic houses; residents here have to contend with occasional flooding.
Purley is situated some 3 miles north west of Reading.

Brian Lucey was admitted to Battle Hospital in Reading, Berkshire, on March 29 after a senior care worker at Purley Park care centre in nearby Purley on Thames mistakenly gave him anti-diabetic tablets intended for another patient.
Berkshire coroner Peter Bedford said Mr Lucey had lived at Purley Park since 1989 and had been well cared for.
The inquest heard that senior care manager Miriam Muwita had been concerned about finding the correct medication record for another patient, which distracted her and led her to give Mr Lucey that patient's medication instead of his own.
