Push poll - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A push poll is a political campaign technique in which an individual or organization attempts to influence or alter the view of respondents under the guise of conducting a poll.
Push polls are generally viewed as a form of negative campaigning.
Perhaps the most famous alleged use of push polls is in the 2000 United States Republican Party primaries, when it was alleged that George W. Bush's campaign used push polling to torpedo the campaign of Senator John McCain.

Push printing - Encyclopedia.WorldSearch   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-07)
In photography, push printing and push developing refer to a process where a picture is printed as if it were a film speed higher than intended by the film manufacturer.
When doing this, the entire roll must be pushed; pushing a roll during developing gives better results than pushing it in printing, but the entire roll must be metered "off" the same amount.
Push printing is sometimes done without the photographer's knowledge or permission, especially on newer automated systems which prompt the developer about potential "problem" photos.

"Push" is a very powerful concept and typically refers to the mechanism or ability to receive and act on information asynchronously, as information becomes available, instead of forcing the application to use synchronous polling techniques that increase resource use or latency.
The push registry is part of the application management system (AMS), the software in the device that's responsible for each application's life-cycle (installation, activation, execution, and removal).
The push registry is the component of the AMS that exposes the push API and keeps track of push registrations.

In server push, a HTTP connection is held open for an indefinite period of time (until the server knows it is done sending data to the client and sends a terminator, or until the client interrupts the connection).
Also, server push has two other advantages: one is that a server push is easily interruptible (you can just hit "Stop" and interrupt the connection), and the other advantage we'll talk about a little later.
One example: there is one distinct open connection for each instance of server push in use, and the server can elect to (for example) shut down such a connection at any time (e.g., via a cron daemon) without requiring a whole lot of logic in the server.
