 Redundant pushrod-to-bellcrank connection - Patent 4030378
A pushrod-to-bellcrank attachment includes a primary pivot connection and two secondary pin and slot connections so arranged relative to each other that there is a continuing operative connection of the pushrod to the bellcrank in the event the primary connection is lost by small arms fire.
This invention is particularly concerned with the attachment of pushrod 22 to bellcrank 10 which provides an improved redundant pivotal connection between these two members capable of continuing the same precise movements of the members following loss of the primary pivot between these members by projectile damage.
Pushrod 22 has a bifurcated end 28 the extremities of which are enlarged in area to form two side plates 30 which somewhat conform in shape to fin portion 20 of bellcrank 10 and receive portion 20 between them.

A Pushrod Length & Rocker Arm Geometry "Must Read"
A large number of variables are involved in determining the correct length pushrod for your application.
Therefore, the radius at either end is complete, which lengthens the pushrod approximately.017" in the case of a 5/16" pushrod with.100" diameter oil holes, minimally chamfered.
Extending the pushrod one rotation lengthens the gauge length.050".

  Pushrod Lengths
Changing the pushrod length is the easiest way to change the rocker to valve tip contact point, in most cases the pushrod length can be adjusted to compensate for best power and reliability.
A rockers pivot point is lower than the pushrod cup and the valve contact points for a good reason, so the wiping action across the valve tip is the greatest at the lowest spring pressures, this helps reduce guide wear.
Setting the correct pushrod length will get the most mileage out of the valve guides, but when radical cams are used they might not be the best for power output.

 Manton Pushrod Information
Improper pushrod length can cause a number of problems including excessive valve guide wear, lessened valve lift, valve stem side thrust, coil bind, valve piston clearance and also rockerarm to retainer interference (in some cases lash caps can be used to help correct rockerarm to retainer clearance problems).
Because a pushrod is an eccentrically loaded column due to angularity load and arc motion within an engine atmosphere, wherever possible it is the most proper to use either a single taper or offset dual taper designed.
The more angularity and arc motion the pushrod encounters, the highest load area on the tube moves closer to the energy source.

Shaft Mounted Rockers Require A Special Method In Order To Find Pushrod Length - Circle Track Magazine
Attempting to measure the pushrod with a set of calipers is problematic because the oiling holes on either end make it difficult to find the true tip of the pushrod because it has been cut away.
After you do that, you simply use a checking pushrod to determine the distance between the pushrod cup in the rocker to the pushrod seat in the lifter (while the lifter is sitting on the base circle of the cam).
Once the shaft system is correctly shimmed, all you have to do to find the correct pushrod length is determine the length between the pushrod cup in the rocker and the pushrod seat on the lifter when it is sitting on the base circle of the cam.

Pushrod Setup   (Site not responding. Last check: )
Most certainly, the flexible pushrod should be well supported very near the servo, and at the point where it exits the fuselage.
Any pushrod should exit the fuselage as close as possible to the control horn, and should be straight across that distance.
Where the pushrods will exit the fuselage, drill a 1/16" hole, and use the threads on the wire at the back end of the pushrod to file out the hole to just fit the wire at the necessary angle to get to the control horn.

This pressure is also affected by rocker ratio, lifter type (hydraulic or solid), the angle between the lifter to pushrod and pushrod to rocker and the normal operating RPM of your engine.
One way to determine, on a ball and cup style, whether the ball and cup are the same radius is to take two pushrods that you know are correct and put the ball end of one into the cup end of the other and check the fit.
One being that if the pushrod being measured has oil holes in it then the measurement could be off by the amount that the machining of the oil hole subtracted from the overall length of the end.

Finding Proper Pushrod Length - Circle Track Magazine   (Site not responding. Last check: )
The pushrod's collapsed length is marked, so after you find the correct size, simply count the number of revolutions the pushrod has been expanded and you will know the right size to order the actual pushrods.
With the lifter on the base circle of the cam, install either a pushrod that you think is the best length or a checking pushrod and the rocker arm, and then zero out the lash (or if you are using a hydraulic lifter, tighten to the recommended preload).
A checking pushrod, such as this one from Comp Cams, is made in two threaded sections that allow it to expand.

Larry Webster - Columns - Car and Driver May 2004
A pushrod is basically a metal tube designed to transfer the reciprocating motion of a valve lifter, riding on the camshaft, to the valve.
The idea of locating the camshafts in the cylinder head was not new, but to a populace still unaware that a 1929 Duesenberg Model J, for example, had double overhead cams and four valves per cylinder, the overhead-cam engine sounded advanced, exotic.
The pushrod was the scapegoat for all that was wrong with Detroit.

Pushrod length affects the efficiency of cam motion transfer to the valves by changing the tip travel, or sweep, of the rocker arm.
When checking pushrod length with roller tip rocker arms, note the position of the roller tip on the valve stem when the valve is at one-half of its net lift.
Take the time to check pushrod length, and you will be rewarded with better performance and less valvetrain wear or possible breakage.

The Bullet: Mystries & Myths - Pushrod (Tappet) Adjustment
The pushrod consists of an aluminium tube with a fixed cup on the top end which fits onto one tip of the rocker-arm, and an "adjustable" cup on the bottom end that fits on the top of the tappet.
The effect of the "tight" pushrod in a running engine is that the valve is always "attacked" by the hot gases, without any opportunity to transfer the heat thru the valve-seat because of it's poor or no contact with it.
Because the expansion of the pushrod is less than the expansion of the crankcase, cylinder and head.

Setting Pushrods Length, Quick and Easy- Car Craft Magazine
All pushrod engines that pivot a rocker arm on a stud determine the location of the rocker-arm tip relative to the valve tip with pushrod length.
The pushrod length could be short or long and the broad rocker-arm tip would accommodate it.
If the pushrod is not the correct length, the rocker tip will not be properly located near the middle of the valve-stem tip at half lift.

The pushrod engine was later specifically developed to allow a larger displacement in a smaller block, at a low cost.
The "smallblock Chevy" that lives on to this day, utilized pushrod design in no small part because it was lightweight and simple in relation to the big, bulky heads and complicated cam-drive that would have done little but add bulk and weight and serviceability headaches to the engine.

 RunRyder Help: Mounting Tail pushrod
Mounting the servo on the left side does not really help either, since the tail pushrod's preferred end postition is quite exactly in the middle of the main frame, and all of the pictures I've seen so far show the servo mounted on the right side of the main frame.
However, if the pushrod is "free-hanging", it develops a lateral bending under push, which is not desirable since it results in bad control of the tail rotor pitch.
But I still wonder about the bending of my pushrod: my X-FP Hornet has the "cheap" tail rotor which is one piece of plastic and the blades are bending along a part which is thinner than the rest of the blades (I assume you understand what I'm trying to describe).
