Puss Gets the Boot is a one-reel animated cartoon short subject, produced in Technicolor and released to theatres on February 10, 1940 by Metro-Goldwyn Mayer.
As such, Puss Gets the Boot gave the animated duo their first Oscar nomination, though the short lost out to another MGM cartoon, The Milky Way.
MGM saw Puss Gets the Boot as a "flash in the pan", and assigned Hanna and Barbera to several musical cartoons.

Get ready to duck, weave, jump and laugh and the hapless feline and the wily rodent take each other on.
The bottom line here is that Warner Bros.' (or at least their children's video division) can't be trusted to produce an uncut DVD set (or even a restored set, as most of the prints here are the same ones seen on Cartoon Network and Boomerang), much less to be honest with their intentions.

Many of the cartoons follow the pattern set in "Puss Gets the Boot": Mammy Two-Shoes (Lilian Randolph) warns Tom that if he makes a mess or lets in any mice, he's out on his ear ("O-W-T, out!").
Now I get to the part that kind of bugs me. I for one can't really stand Whoopi Goldberg but thats beside the point that the little introduction about racial stereotyping IMHO was completely inappropriate and extremely tacky.

We can also see (for a brief second) the back of her head when she "peeks in on 'dem two cats", before getting her butt slapped with a frying pan and shovel by Tom and Butch in "A Mouse in the House".

Since at the time MGM cartoons were either stupid musicals or Barney Bear shorts.
The short "Puss Gets the Boot" seemed like good competition for the Warner shorts.
