Putnam County is a county located in the state of West Virginia.
The county is bounded in the northeast by Jackson County, in the east by Kanawha County, in the south by Lincoln County, in the west by Cabell County and in the north and west by Mason County.
In the county, the population is spread out with 25.00% under the age of 18, 7.60% from 18 to 24, 30.40% from 25 to 44, 25.50% from 45 to 64, and 11.60% who are 65 years of age or older.

Putnam County School Board activity has been relatively quiet; the board has been dealing with the basic day-to-day operational policy issues that most public schools tend to have.
Facilities continue to erode and there is not much immediate help in sight; the recent bond call failed, it would have provided $20.5 million dollars for expansions, renovations, replacement of George Washington Middle and a new elementary school in Teays Valley.
There have been some discussions to attempt another bond call this spring; however, Sid Linville, President of the Putnam County School Board, said "Due to the overall economic outlook, the bond call will probably have to wait awhile".

Summers County was created by an act of the Virginia General Assembly on February 27, 1871 from parts of Fayette, Greenbrier, Mercer and Monroe counties.
He was a member of the Virginia Constitutional Convention of 1850, ran for the Governorship of Virginia in 1850 but lost to Joseph Johnson, and was then elected Judge of the Eighteenth Judicial Circuit of Virginia, serving from 1852 to 1858.
The county court house was constructed in Hinton in 1876 and occupied by the county court in 1877.

Native West Virginia wetland species such as cattails, sedges, and rushes were planted to compliment the species already present in the area.
