 Zoning Battle Intensifies
PUTNAM TOWNSHIP - A discrepancy over zoning and a difference in opinion over the necessity for a building permit has escalated into a "war" between officials and a township resident.
In February, township officials filed a civil complaint in the 44th Circuit Court saying it was illegal for the building to be on Gardella's property because Gardella didn't secure the necessary permits.
The township fought for demolition of the structure by a "licensed contractor of its choosing who may be accompanied by any and all necessary Putnam Township and or law enforcement officials during the demolition process."

 PUTNAM SCHOOL
Putnam School was permanently closed in June 1943 and students were then sent to the Eckford Village School for the remainder of the 1940s.
The Putnam district was then annexed into the Homer Public Schools, it being one of the first rural country schools in the area to annex into a city school district.
A Putnam School reunion in which former pupils gather together to share their rembrances of growing up in the district is held at the end of July each year.

Township trustees have given LSL Planning Inc. of Grand Rapids the green light to prepare a new ordinance that would grant protection to wetlands smaller than five acres.
The Putnam Township Board voted 5-2 last week with Clerk Sally Guyon and Trustee Tom Benedetti dissenting, to pay LSL Planning Inc., $2,100 to prepare a wetlands ordinance.

Many township officials will be approached in the coming weeks by providers to certify that their community is an “underserved area.” The definition of “underserved” is an area or community where there is no widely available access to affordable broadband service.
In 2005, general law townships with a taxable value of $66 million or more were required to publish board meeting minutes or a synopsis of the proceedings.
To date, some 346 township officials throughout the state have taken the challenge and begun the journey to earn their TGA credential by enrolling in the Township Governance Academy.

The Hamburg Township Police, The Michigan State Police, The Pinckney Police, and The Livingston County Sheriffs Department all pursued Gustafson at or near the Lakeland trail over a period of several weeks to no avail.
The Hamburg Township Police recently received a significant commitment from the Federal Government in the form of a "Cops" grant.
