The territory was taken form the townships of North Woodbury and Greenfield in the County of Bedford and the townships of Allegheny, Antes, Snyder, Tyrone, Frankstown, Blair, Huston and Woodbury and a portion of Morris Township lying westward of the line run by William Reed from the County of Huntingdon.
The Juniata division of the Pennsylvania Canal was opened to Hollidaysburg in November, 1832 and the growth of the community increased rapidly by several thousand people.
A goodly number of the young men of Altoona were engaged in the military during the early years of the railroad as the Union forces were called upon to defend their freedoms against the southern army.

The site, typical of other dump sites here in Blair county and across Pennsylvania, was located along the road where a "pull-off" is located.
In an effort to keep any future dumping from occurring, the township used a skidsteer loader to double mound piles of dirt on the pull-off to prevent access to the bank where the dumping occurs.
The Puzzletown cleanup was a success, and I think everyone walked away with a feeling of accomplishment and pride just knowing that there is one less dump in Blair County to clean up".

It is found at the bottom of a valley which leads up to Blue Knob, the second-highest mountain in the state and part of the Allegheny Front, the eastern edge of the Appalachian Plateau.
Puzzletown has had no city government of its own since the 1800s, when it was incorporated as Poplar Run; it currently is part of Duncansville.

Theory No. 1: A man named Baird or Beard (no one's quite sure of the spelling) founded a village he called Poplar Run, Pa. It was a very small place, squeezed in between mountain passageways.
For an unknown reason, folks changed the name to Puzzletown a few years later.
