Strategische Bedeutung erhält die Stadt einerseits durch ihre zentrale Lage und anderseits dadurch, dass sie nahe den Grenzen mehrerer von großen Minderheiten (Shan, Chin und Karen) bewohnten Teilstaaten liegt, die sich teils schon seit langem in Konflikt mit der herrschenden Militärdiktatur befinden.
Als Grund gab er an, Pyinmana sei durch seine zentrale Lage besser geeignet, da die Stadt aus allen Landesteilen leicht zu erreichen sei.

PYINMANA - LIVES were turned upside down - some for the better, some for the worse - when Myanmar's military rulers announced abruptly in November that this once sleepy provincial town was to become the country's capital.
Until now, Pyinmana has been a small rural town clustered around sugar mills and a railway lumber yard on the country's main rail line, halfway between Yangon and Mandalay, the last independent Burmese kingdom's capital before Britain seized the country in 1885.

Until now, Pyinmana has been a small rural town clustered around sugar mills and a railway lumber yard on the country's main rail line, halfway between Rangoon and Mandalay, the last independent Burmese kingdom's capital before Britain seized the country in 1885.
The new capital is said at the moment to be largely a construction site, with new buildings, military barracks, government offices and homes for civil servants rising on 10 square kilometres of cleared land to the west of the existing town.
Needless to say, the relocation to Pyinmana already worries foreign diplomats, for whom Rangoon is already quite enough of a hardship post.

We were taking Mandalay-Yangon train, and the train arrived to Pyinmana late (1:00 pm instead of 11:30 am), and it stopped many times at the stations on the way.
