 Aeroflot - #2, 2005
Pyotr Nesterov was a living legend even before the First World War; he was the first pilot to make a “loop the loop” in a plane.
Pyotr Nikolayevich Nesterov was born in February 1887 in Nizhny Novgorod, to the family of a career officer who taught in the local cadet school.
The whole world soon learned of “Nesterov’s loop,” dubbed by the newspapers as the “dead man’s noose.” Congratulatory telegrams flowed in, journalists dogged him requesting an interview, and his commanders, although formally forbidding such dangerous stunts, looked the other way as Nesterov repeated his experiment, showing that the first success was no accident.

Isaac Levitan Biography - Olga's Gallery
Its significance is compared with the works of such classics as Anton Chekhov, Pyotr Tchaikovsky and Konstantin Stanislavsky.
The greatest role in the forming of Levitan’s creative personality belongs to his favorite teacher Alexey Savrasov, the most lyrical among Russian landscape painters of the 1860s-1870s, who influenced many well-known artists of Levitan’s generation — Mikhail Nesterov, Constantin Korovin and others.
Of course, Levitan’s passionate love for poetry and music, his persistent studying of pleine-air, the sunny paintings of Vasiliy Polenov, who also taught at the School, the works of the French painters of the Barbizon school, of Camille Corot were of great importance for the young artist.
