Pyramid Song - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Pyramid Song" is the first release from Amnesiac, and the first Radiohead single for 4 years, after none were taken from Kid A.
It is a beautiful piano-driven piece with dreamy lyrics, and is renowned for its peculiar rhythm which is incredibly hard to follow, and led many to believe that "Pyramid Song" had no time signature.
The song builds to a climax with the introduction of drums and strings, whose mermaid-like wails give a strong impression of being underwater.

 Pyramid Song by Radiohead Songfacts
Radiohead never allows their music to be used for commercial purposes, but Thom Yorke thought this was a good cause so he let them use it for $1.
if you listen closely, the song is divided into subdivisions of 16ths like this: 1231231234123123, which equals 16 16th notes in a bar.
Pyramid song, in my opinion, is a track about the world approaching its end (another one of Thom's greatest fears) and a journey through a survivors eyes.

It's that we had, say, 23 songs and we wanted to have around 47 minutes of music, so we chose the best combination out of that number (for 'Kid A'), and the rest are waiting on the bench, waiting to be picked for the next team line-up.

Radiohead: Pyramid Song #1 & #2 - PopMatters Music Review   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-18)
The song is alive and kicking, Yorke's vocal and the pure electric noise of the guitar jumping out of the speakers as if they were pent up in their for ages.
The song's final minute of mildly effected synthesizers is a requiem, an ode much in the spirit of "Paranoid Android"'s middle section, honoring and eulogizing Yorke's lost vigor.
The track is slippery and elusive, a mellow driving song, trees and signs zooming by, words and phrases thought of and subsequently dropped, drum phrases begun and cut up-a distant memory of a song.

The song is built upon a relatively simple (but certainly not common) repeating chord progression played on the piano, over which subtly eerie orchestral sounds echo, before Yorke's gentle vocals enter.
The Pyramid Song is probably one of the most accesible Amnesiac songs with the great piano line and spooky vocals.

Review from SXSW by Allstar: "Pyramid Song" creeped up next, as a piano-laden intro quickly gave way to a minor howl from Yorke.
As the crowd at Plush became lost in the track (many folks were seen with their eyes shut, as if in some sort of trance), a large, overpowering orchestral crescendo rose and fell, bolting those lost in the music back to reality that this is Austin, Texas, not a Pentecostal sermon.

It is the jam, quirky-funk soul-salve with a goofy wedding bell sample, but it also feels much bigger-- a brave attempt to make up for the myriad songs in rock, hip-hop, blues, etc., about thuggin' 'em, fuckin' em, and cutting out before the due date.
From the liquid keyboard sample at its heart to the baroque electronic guitar solo at its conclusion, "Digital Love" is one of the few songs from the last five years that still feels like it has genuine magic coursing through its veins.

The song is just a sound collage of tape loops and nonsense very similar to the Lennon’s “Revolution #9.” But unlike that tune’s ability to freak you out, this will just bore you.
Along with “Pyramid Song,” this is the most stirring melody on the record and features one of Radiohead’s all time great musical changes half way through.

pyramid song follows a pattern of 5/4-4/4-4/4-3/4 that repeats throughout the entire song
but I brought the song in to my drum lesson, and we clearly found the time pattern (unless the drums go at a different signature) because it was 5/4-4/4-4/4-3/4 and there was always a drum fill in the 3/4 section which was how we figured it out

I prefer to be clear now, NME did not know anything about what happened, Thom was not mad or upset, when he was mad, about I might be wrong, it was because the band fucked up the song, but this is, as far I?m concerned, a normal reaction after 3 consecutive fails.
The next song is National Anthem, same thing, they try to reach the perfection, the sound was again astonishing, everything sounded clear, and the horn brass was very nice, Thom really seemed healthy, he moved a lot and was smiling.
I will just say that the songs were played again better than the first time, maybe because they were really annoyed by this problem and wanted to show they are ready.

The second song on Amnesiac is of course “Pyramid Song,” which was the subject of much scrutiny on its release.
It was the first single; it had been, if not a staple of recent live shows, then a welcome and occasional component of them; its lyrics were easy to catch and easy to follow, if not terrifically easy to take; it had a video.
Our opinion on this question is that “Pyramid Song” is actually a hand reaching out of a rabbit hole proffering delicious candy, only the candy is drugged and there are no rabbits in the hole: just ghosts and the promise of bad times ahead.

Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood are chiefly responsible for songwriting, with Yorke initiating a song and Greenwood developing it, though the entire band is often involved.
Songs like "High & Dry", "Fake Plastic Trees", "My Iron Lung" (the band´s response to their big hit "Creep") and "Street Spirit (Fade Out)" were striking, original and profound, hinting that the group were growing as musicians and were on the way to lasting fame.
With the songs fleshed out and finalised during the tour, the band completed the album in a Los Angeles studio in a fortnight.

I'm giving this cd three stars for the other two, but the reason i haven't mentioned them is they're available on a different Pyramid Song single which includes two of Radiohead's best songs on it as well.
With a jazz drum pattern, meandering keyboards and Thom's pleas to "let's keep moving" and "Don't fall asleep at the wheel," the song moves and yet stalls in the middle of the road [this is not suppose to be a negative criticism but rather an attempt to describe the song]
All their preconceptions of Radiohead have been turned upside down, as tunes like Pyramid Song appear as the first single off a new album.

However, as the song progresses, it reaches an intense crescendo of drums and brash noise that leaves Yorke fighting to be heard above the wall of dissonance.
This same type of crescendo can be heard in a later song on the album, "Dollars and Cents," which features tribal drumming beats and a long, drawn out buildup of tension.
Another song that has dissonance in its sound is "Amnesiac/ Morning Bell." A remake of "Morning Bell" from "Kid A,"; the song sounds completely new.
