Pyramid Peak (4273m) is often regarded as the most beautiful of the 14’ers in Colorado.
I estimated that the peak was at least 1-2 hours away, and that the saddle in-between was dropping at least 100 metres.
I studied the map, measured the GPS-position and came to the conclusion that I was on the true summit of Pyramid Peak, and that the other peak must be slightly lower one.

This trail is steep, as promised, and 2.
The trail soon left the ridge and contoured toward a feature I have seen numerous times in photographs of Pyramid Peak: the “cliff traverse” ledge.

This popular route is the shortest and most direct route to the summit of Pyramid Peak and in fact, is so frequently used that in some places, it is as well defined as many of the official trails in the wilderness.

We signed our names, mine with the picture of the peak with the question mark on it (only my opinion of people who are obsessed with the numbers game of how many peaks they climbed instead of the quality of the experience).

One of January's mildest desert weekends found a group of some 25 DPS fans assembled in Death Valley Junction on Sat morning ready for the 11-mile car caravan to reach the start of the Pyramid Peak ascent, an all-day affair with a 3700' gain.

After success on Capitol Peak I was hoping for more of the same on this one.
The trail was excellent and although I was cautious in looking for the cutoff to Pyramid, when I saw the Bells getting closer I knew I went past it.
Pyramid is the hardest fourteener I've done and also one I never thought I would do, especially in 1995 when I started them.

 Trip Report: Pyramid Peak
Exhausted from the previous day's hike of Maroon Peak but encouraged by our success, Amy and I continued with our plan to attempt Pyramid Peak.
Maroon Peak was more strenuous, but Pyramid required much greater care for a safe trip due to the final steep slope and loose rock.
Neither peak offered much of the delightful scrambling enjoyed on ridge routes on Lindsey, Wetterhorn, or Sneffels, and I am hard-pressed to think of scenarios in which I would climb either again.
