Topic: Pyramids Discworld

Pyramids (Discworld) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Pyramids is the seventh Discworld novel by Terry Pratchett, published in 1989.
The main character of Pyramids is Teppic, prince of the tiny kingdom of Djelibeybi (a pun on Jelly baby, a confection common in the United Kingdom).
Djelibeybi is the Discworld counterpart to Ancient Egypt.

Pyramids (The Book of Going Forth) is Terry Pratchett's 7th Discworld novel, and continues the trend of changing the series from a satire of the fantasy genre into a distorted mirror of our own world.
Nevertheless, Pyramids is still a fine novel - just not a hilarious one, and the fact that this is a completely standalone novel (in fact this is sequentially the first Discworld novel that has not yet been sequelised by the return of it's lead characters) makes this perfect for newcomers as well.
Pyramids, you see, slow down time, and there are so many pyramids in Djelibeybi now that new time is continually sucked in by them and released nightly in flares.

Discworld, a flat circular place inhabited by a plethora of fine and jovial creatures sits on the back of four elephants and is propelled through space on a giant turtle.
Pyramids: Set in the desert kingdom of Djelibeybi, "Pyramids" follows the adventures and, more often, misadventures of Teppic, a teenage pharoah faced with a terror-filled world of mad high priests, sacred crocodiles, marching mummies and exploding pyramids.
Monstrous Regiment (Discworld S.): The Monstrous Regiment in question is made up of a vampire, a troll, Igor, a collection of misfits and a young woman who shoves a pair of socks down her pants to join the army.

Pyramids (the book of going forth) is the seventh Discworld novel - and the most outrageously funny to date.
The Great Pyramid being built for his father's mummy is much too big, and eventually it causes the temporal dislocation of Djelibeybi from the face of the Discworld.
`Pyramids' was the first of his books that I read and even though I have now read most of them it remains, in my opinion, one of the best.

Pyramids is an excellent addition to the Discworld series and, like just about every other volume in the series is both hilariously funny and thought provoking.
Teppic is the heir to the throne of Djelibeybi.
The rest of the story follows Teppic's adventures as the power of the new pyramid built to honor his father causes havoc with the time-space continuum and which in turn threatens to engulf the region in a disastrous war.

Pyramids falls into the brilliant category - it fails genius only because the characters herein aren't among the most engaging of the Discworld population.
Pyramids features, perhaps not surprisingly, Pyramids, embalmers going crazy, camels (lots of camels - including You Bastard (all the camels are named after what people call them!), the Disc's greatest mathematician!), an ill-fated love affair, and many laughs.
A familiarity with Discworld is not really required for this one, although it may help slightly.

With Pyramids, the seventh Discworld opus, Terry Pratchett's unstoppable creative genius unleashes some of the most cosmic comic mayhem the series had seen up to that point.
The story reaches an early climax of sorts when the construction of the massive pyramid causes such a vast buildup of magic that the entire nation of Djelibaybi ends up on the business end of a bizarre cataclysm.
Overall, Pyramids is a funny entry in this enduringly popular series, though it doesn't quite become the epic that Pratchett is both parodying and aspiring towards.

Pratchett writes sub-series based on different groups of characters, and the characters do develop in later books, so either read all of the books in order, or each subseries in order.
