  Pyraminx at AllExperts
The Pyraminx (aka Pyramix) is a tetrahedron-shaped puzzle similar to the Rubik's Cube.
The Pyraminx is a puzzle in the shape of a tetrahedron, divided into 4 axial pieces, 6 edge pieces, and 4 trivial tips.
The purpose of the Pyraminx is to scramble the colors, and then restore them to their original configuration.

 Pyraminx / Tetraminx
The standard Pyraminx is a regular tetrahedron, of which each triangular face is divided into 9 identical smaller triangles, three to a side.
The Pyraminx was invented by Uwe Mèffert in about 1971, but he only started producing it when the Cube Craze hit, and after he had carefully secured patents in most relevant countries, in particular Taiwan and Korea which haven't signed international patent treaties.
Mechanically, it is those faces which are fixed to the centre, whereas in the pyraminx it is the corners which are on axes.

 Ideas for other puzzles
The standard tetrahedral puzzle is the Pyraminx, a tetrahedron with three pieces to an edge.
If the main cuts are instead slightly shallower than the pyraminx then centre pieces also appear but these do not move, and therefore might as well be fixed to the central mechanism too.
Shallower cuts are also possible, for example by using the Pyraminx mechanism instead to give a puzzle which has 4 large turning corners and 6 free moving pieces made from two triangles.

In the case of the Pyraminx, following a few preliminary moves, edge pieces are placed using the Edge Piece Series.
This tip is like the face center of a Rubik’s Cube in that it may be rotated but it cannot be moved to another part of the Pyraminx.
These edge pieces are the only pieces which may actually be moved from one part of the Pyraminx to another.

Pyraminx has eight twists: two each along four different axes perpendicular to the four faces.
Pyraminx is made of 14 smaller units of three different colorations: 4 corner tetrahedrons colored on three sides (red), 6 edge tetrahedrons colored on two sides (orange), and 4 center octahedrons colored on three nonadjacent sides (yellow).

I believe that Master Pyraminx as per german patent has never been produced, but may be that very same Master Pyraminx on the japanese site, as I don't really know what internal design it has.
There is only handful of Master Pyraminxes with serious collectioners in Russia, as there was an attempt to produce these once back in Soviet Union times.
The attempt was unsuccessful due to structural weakness, and the whole run of the puzzles had been destroyed, but may be justy a few that got into hands of collectioners.

Regular polyhedron puzzles - Patent 4706956
This invention introduces several variations of Regular Polyhedron Puzzles which are improvements, generalizations and extensions to "Rubik's" Cube, "Pyraminx" tetrahedron and the class of puzzles given in the reference cited.
The object and the challenge is to perform twists and turns aimed at restoring the surfaces to their original configuration or to other interesting designs.
It is emphasized that for the Pyraminx type Octahedron, the advantage of an internal concentric octahedron of the correct size is that rotation occurs directly over the vertices of the internal structure.
