		Everything Mike Oldfield did prior to QE2 was worthy of attention and interest, but much of it was so daunting in the length of compositions and shifts of mood that it could all end up a bit hard to stomach.
		QE2 rectifies this situation without sacrificing anything in terms of quality and musical message.

	QE2 - Discovery
		QE2, even though it is not as refined as some would like, has elements that conjure visions in your mind of something epic and very touching.
		This album also marks the first appearance of Maggie Reilly, and though she's in the background on this album, she still shows good potential in her singing.
		What a great album this is, I much prefer this to the one before (Platinum), which disappointed me. I know the critics hated it at the time, but there was always going to be a backlash after all the acclaim he received.

		The flagship track of the album is "Taurus 1", a prog extravaganza work that travels from Mandolin imitations of Spanish Guitar, Celtic melodies, straightforward prog tracks (with Phil Collins doing a worthwhile job on drums), African percussion effects, and further Celtic folk melodies as the track reaches its conclusion.
		QE2 might well be regarded as the consolidation of existing talents prior to a change in direction.
		QE2 should be a worthwhile purchase for almost all Oldfield fans, whether their primary focus in on the earlier or poppier material.

		Sound throught the album is a little bit thin but otherwise production work is very fine and I like those real horns (which were replaced by synths in next album).
		"Qe2" came out between the rocking "platinum" and more complex "Five miles out".it could be heard that he is searching for more natural sounds.there is only little left from clear and crispy production of "platinum" - the production is different and the whole album has a bit darker sound than other albums.
		May be the most melodic album of his (beside Voyager).

		The Sigma was released in 1979, so Mike may have used it on this album, though it seems it wasn't an instrument many players of the time wanted to be seen with.
		On 'Mirage', Mike Frye's drums are used as modulator - it seems to have been fed straight from the drum tracks, as the vocoded synth sound (which you can hear right at the beginning) follows the timing of the drums exactly when they come in.
		His hope was that if he took their suggestions on board, they would promote his albums better, especially in the USA where they sometimes weren't being released at all.

		Being a collaboration between Thighpaulsandra and Julian Cope, the record is crammed full of extremely beautiful sounds; achieved through the use of Mellotrons, Moogs, ARP synthesizers and large amounts of percussion.
		On its release in ’97, this huge album was described by Julian as "Cumulus-sized zeppelins powered by moped engines." It is fair to say that time disappears when QE2 enters the room.

		The impetus for this cool and swinging traditional jazz sextet date came from a conversation the producer had with the late Gerry Mulligan, who had always wanted to record an album featuring his baritone sax and clarinetist Pee Wee Russell.
		Mulligan also never got around to recording with clarinetist Kenny Davern, but the idea to blend the clarinet with the baritone stayed alive when it came to organizing the 18th Annual Floating Jazz Festival about QE2.
