Ordnance QF 6 pounder - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Ordnance QF 6-pounder 7 cwt, or just "6 pdr", was a British 57 mm gun, their primary anti-tank gun during the middle of World War II, as well as the main armament for a number of tanks.
Instead the 6 pounder was followed into service by the next generation British anti-tank gun, the 17 pounder which aside from a small batch in 1942 to fight the Tigers, came into use from 1943.

All the RML guns were to be removed together with the 6 pdr QF these latter were to be replaced by 12 pdr QF; the 9.2-inch gun was to be substituted for the 10-inch BL so that Fort Camden would receive two 9.2-inch BL, two 6 inch BL and three 12 pdr.
QF guns with one of the RML positions surviving intact, on the southern flank of this battery and at a higher level is Upper Practice Battery for two guns.
QF battery which is now invisible due to vegetation, in front of this battery were three searchlights that covered the minefield and operated in conjunction with the two on the opposite side of the harbour entrance at Fort Camden.

These supported a timber grillage of 12 foot (3.6 metres) by 6 foot (1.8 metres) scantling all set in a 3 foot (0.9 metre) layer of concrete and finished with a 6 inch (15 centimetres) stone paving on which the structure was to stand.
The new 4.7-inch QF gun was considered to be a more effective weapon to engage such targets with a shell weighing 45-lbs (20-kgs) and a maximum range of 16,500 yards (15,250 metres) and, in 1910, the proposed armament for the tower was changed to two 4.7-inch QF guns.
The 4.7-inch QF gun was mounted on top of each tower and built into the raised rear parapet were three cartridge recesses and one shell recess all 3 feet 6 inches (1.07 metres) by 4 feet (1.2 metres) by 3 feet (0.92 metres) high.

As torpedo boats got larger and could fire their weapons from a greater range, so the QF principal became adapted to larger guns culminating, as far as 'fixed' ammunition was concerned, probably in the Armstrong 40 pdr, used in the RN as the 4.7 QF.
Thus replaced, the old 3 and 6 pdr went back into various armament stores, to re-emerge as field guns for landing parties as an alternative to the 12pdr, as saluting guns and, at a pinch in wartime, as main armament for small ships when nought else was available.
Vickers may have acquired the licences for a QF in the later 1890s/early this century.

it appears that the rate of fire for the allied 6 pdr a/t gun is faster than the rate of fire on the german 75 mm a/t gun.
IMHO the rate of fire of the 6 pdr is quite a bit faster than the german 75mm in the game rht now.
AT action jacks question about the 17 pdrs being so deadly.......its true about the high velocity.......[ the german 88 is an example of that ]but also AJ is wrong about the round the 17 pdr fires.....it IS a discarding sabot round.

It was first used in North Africa in April 1942, and quickly replaced the 2 pounder in most roles, and allowing the 25 pounder to revert to the normal artillery role.
The US Army also adopted the 6 pdr as their primary anti-tank gun, known as the 57mm anti-tank gun M1.

Informat.io on Ordnance Qf 17 Pounder
The Ordnance QF 17-pounder (or just 17-pdr) was a 76.2 mm gun developed by the United Kingdom during World War II.
In 1944, the British started to use APDS shot, which travelling at nearly 4000 feet per second (1200 m/s) increased the power of the 17-pdr greatly with a penetration of 213 mm armour (at 1000 m).
Early attempts to mount it on existing chassis were not terribly successful, but the gun proved so successful on the M4 Sherman that it was quickly rushed into service in time for D-Day as the Firefly.
