russbo.com Discussion Forum Archive: Qinggong (or "hangkung" in Cantonese pronunciation)
I believe qinggong (or "hangkung" in Cantonese pronunciation), which means the art of lightness, was real.
Today it is rare to find a master who knows qinggong, and even if you find him it is rare that he wants to teach you.
But if you are uninformed about qinggong training, it is inadvisable for you to strap weights, or even attempt qinggong training on your own -- unless you do not mind risking injury to your sexual organs.

The only reason to visit QINHUANGDAO, an industrial city and charmless modern port 15km east of Beidaihe, is to make arrangements to leave - the ferry terminal here operates a passenger service to Dalian from July to September which leaves on even numbered days and takes thirteen hours - a lot faster than the train.
Tickets can be bought from CITS in Room 214 of the Qinggong Hotel and cost between ¥140 for a seat to ¥370 for a bed in a double cabin.
If you get stuck in the city overnight, the Qinggong Hotel, on the main road at 204 Jianshi Dajie (tel 0335/3049327; ¥100-150), is inexpensive and friendly, while just north up the road at 330 Wenhua Dajie, the International Hotel (tel 0335/3083083; ¥500-700) is the luxury option.

The late Wan Laisheng of Ziranmen has a famous picture where he is walking on the edge of a basket as a child.
Actually, some weirdos in France or something, I hear, have been running and jumping from roof to roof, doing what is probably the same as qinggong.
I'm pretty sure that walking around a basket edge is part of the qinggong training and I know i've seen a video of monks doing it.

On a somewhat related note, I'd like to hear more about Zhang Dekuei's purported mastery of the qinggong ("light body skill" or "flying skill") which I have seen referenced numerous times.
I bring this up because I am under the impression that the "Su Li-Chang" referenced in Tony's article is the same person generally known as "Su Yu-Chang", a former student of both Liu Yun Qiao and Zhang Dekuei.
Not only are the names similar, but Tony's artical speaks of studying with Su Li-Chang as a matrix through which one had to pass in order to merit studying with Liu Yun Qiao.

I heard from a certain qinggong master that the highest jump qinggong can achieve is 4 storeys.
I have a good suspicion it is NOT constant, and that part of the qinggong TRAINING is exactly training that.
It's more or less simple internal strength practice for the legs and lower body, to kind of fajing on jumping, doing a cummulating contracting of the muscles of the foot, calf, knee, thigh and hip, using the spine, and having a perfect structure to support the jump, or run.

These are more of fantasy yarns with concepts like qinggong, wulin, and jianghu which Western viewers seem to have much difficulty to comprehend.
But the qinggong (let's just call it "superhuman powers") is kept to a minimum.
