What made her such a remarkable figure in her time, however, is not solely nor even predominantly her role as a revolutionary, as much scholarship suggests; it is, rather, the ways in which she was able to forge and negotiate a variety of public identities including that of a writer, anarchist, revolutionary, and feminist.
Qiu Jin’s writings lament the exclusion of women from public spaces; her cross-dressing and adoption of a male persona served as a means for her to negotiate and circumvent such exclusions.
That Qiu Jin’s public and political identity was forged by a visual gender transformation of sorts points to the dilemma of a public woman in the late Qing: her voice and public legitimacy had to be mediated through a renunciation of sexuality and the female body.

Chen Shou worked under the Jin government and together with the fact that he was formerly an official of Shu-Han, it comes to no surprise that he was very careful in choosing the words he used.
This was a crucial point since the legitimacy of the Jin dynasty depended on the legitimacy of the previous dynasty which the Sima family usurped.
With the Western Jin crumbling to barbarians, there were legitimacy concerns with the new Eastern Jin dynasty, mirroring that of Shu-Han and its claim that it was continuing the lineage of the previous Han dynasty.

When we recall the revolutionary heroine Qiu Jin, who landed a place in Chinese history for thousands of years to come, we cannot forget the heroic act of her facing death with a smile at the gate of Guxuan Pavilion, Shaoxing City in 1907.
Qiu Jin shed her blood for the country, caring little about losing her life.
In my opinion, these requests displayed two aspects of Qiu Jin's greatness: first, she was a great mother and a great revolutionary.
