Qix - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The objective of Qix is to claim 75% (or greater) of the playfield.
Qix was initially very popular, although its popularity supposedly dwindled when it was discovered there were no patterns to winning as there were in other games such as Pac-Man.
Qix spawned a sequel, Super Qix, which was released in 1987.

 AGH 5200 Review -- Qix
Taito's Qix may not have had the legs necessary to succeed as an arcade game but it nonetheless represents everything that a good coin-op should be.
Qix was the first major "block drawing" contest, but unlike the bulk of games in this genre (Amidar, Pepper II, Gal's Panic), the gameplay is totally free-form.
Atari's Qix for the 5200 is a tremendous coin-op translation, offering a perfectly stylized duplication of the original graphics, right down to the lettering.

ClassicGaming.com - Games of the Week: Qix
Qix is not a game that shares the same status as other classics of the era.
The Qix is a deadly adversary composed of several multi-colored lines that dance and weave around the playfield.
In later levels, another Qix will join the battle, and the two work together in diabolical strategies that you swear are too complex for their programming.

 Qix
Qix was released in 1990 for the Apple IIgs, the original being an arcade game first released way back in 1981.
This can be done in two ways, the first to press and release the fire button (either open-apple or option) and move in the direction (keypad) you wish to shape a square in the playfield.
While Qix is certainly one of the more innovative arcade games of our time, it's tough - I myself have never passed level 5 and neither have I seen anyone develop a strategy to contain the Qix (which becomes faster and targets in on your sprite in later levels) effectively.

If the ever-shifting Qix touches your marker or an uncompleted boundary you are drawing, you lose a "life" and start again.
Qix, it seems, was only ever translated into Atari 5200 form in its day, as it would have been incredibly difficult to create a passable Qix adaptation for the Atari 2600, even though, just before Atari stopped supporting its original breadwinner, a 2600 Qix was announced but never hit the store shelves.
But the only real spinoff of Qix came later, with the arrival of Super Qix, which remained true to the play of the original game, but embellished the graphics by transforming the Qix from a screen saver into a cute, animè-inspired dragon character.

If the jumpy Qix Dragon touches your marker or an uncompleted boundary you are drawing, you lose a "life" and start again.
The beauty of the original Qix was that it was a simple-but-difficult, instinctive puzzle game, and it was gloriously abstract.
No motives were assigned to anything or anyone; the helix-like Qix was automatically your antagonist because it would stop you from drawing your stix (in essence, as Daily Variety might say, nixing your stix pix).

This was the beginning of the QIX (Quebec Internet Exchange), a neutral space where Quebec carriers exchange their routing tables and their traffic.
A unique feature of IP is that it sends packets to their destination by the shortest or the fastest route; that being the case, QIX allows Quebec Internet traffic to stay in Quebec, without having to be routed through New York, Toronto or Chicago.
The QIX consists of a Cisco LightStream 1010 router connected to two PCs that act as routing servers; these three devices are located in RISQ's central equipment room in Montreal.

Enemies to avoid include: the Qix, a stick with trails that moves erratically about the unclaimed play field; the Sparx, small moving sparks that travel in opposite directions around the circumference of the unclaimed play field; and the Fuse, a Sparx that comes after the player's marker if it stops while drawing a Stix.
