	Decline in prices hurts net at Quanta Computer
		TAIPEI Quanta Computer, the world's largest maker of notebook computers, said Tuesday that first-quarter profit fell 32 percent because of lower prices and a loss from the company's investment in flat-panel displays.
		Quanta and its rivals are cutting computer prices to try to maintain market share, some analysts said.
		Quanta had a loss of 4.1 billion dollars in the first quarter from its 20 percent-owned Quanta Display, a venture with Sharp of Japan that makes flat-panel displays for computer monitors.

		Quanta computers Inc., the Taiwan-based computer manufacturer has been selected to be the Original Design Manufacturer (ODM) for a project of $100 laptop computers which is being funded by a non-profit organization named (OLPC.)

	Computers to break price barriers
		Taiwan's Quanta Computer Inc, the world's biggest personal computer manufacturer, will start production on the entry-level laptop and desktop in Changshu, Jiangsu Province at the beginning of next year, the company's officials said at the IT exhibition eMEX 2006, which opened yesterday in Suzhou.
		Quanta, which manufactures computers for Hewlett Packard and Dell, is the original design manufacturer of the US$100 laptop.
		Godsen computers will have a CPU similar in ability to Intel's Pentium 4 1.5 gigahertz chip, which is capable of Internet browsing and word processing, according to Yu, who said the products were designed for students and rural people in the rural regions.

	OLPC News: Quanta to Ship 10 million 2B1s in 12 months
		Quanta Computer president Michael Wang stated that the company has set a 12-month shipment goal of 10 million notebooks for the US$100 laptop project, initiated by the One Laptop per Child (OLPC) research initiative, starting from when actual shipments kick off at the end of the first quarter, 2007.
		Given Quanta's order expectation, this means that either these four countries are about to spend more than $1.4 billion on the worlds largest beta test, or a few more countries will be gambling with their education budgets for 2008.
		Quanta will want to keep production as high as they can, so if governments order less than 10M laptops, Quanta will be looking for retail customers to take some of the rest.
