		Quantum praedecessores is a papal bull issued on December 1, 1145, by Pope Eugene III, calling for a Second Crusade.
		It was the first papal bull issued with a crusade as its subject.

		Quantum praedecessores with that of the later bull commonly referred to as
		is Quantum praedecessores II, written by Eugenius on March 1, 1146.
		Odo explicitly refers to the pope's command regarding "moderation in arms and clothing"; as Erich Casper and Peter Rassow have demonstrated, the only significant difference between the two crusading bulls is that the second stresses moderation in clothing and is the only bull which demands that no attention be given to "gilded or silvered arms".

	Pope Eugenius III
		Pope Eugenius III had just been elected when he was brought word of the disaster by Bishop Hugh of Jabala.
		It was not until late fall, however, that Eugenius finally issued a crusading bull: Quantum praedecessores, addressed to Louis VII and the Gauls, on December 1, 1145.
